What is a Mental Health IOP?

Our outpatient intensive program is tailored to patients who have completed a partial hospitalization program (day treatment) and require additional support while integrating into daily life. While therapies and programs are structured to ensure quality treatment, IOPs offer a flexible schedule that can align with external responsibilities and commitments.

An intensive outpatient program will include individual behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and cognitive behavior therapy. In addition, group therapy, patient education, peer support, and relapse prevention services will be provided to patients for the duration of the program.

Outpatient treatment programs are valuable for crisis stabilization, short-term mental health rehabilitation, the development of healthy coping skills, and treatment for co-occurring disorders. Intensive outpatient programs provide clients with ongoing care and support while encouraging an independent lifestyle. We provide comprehensive programming to empower clients to achieve their goals of overcoming their disorder.

Our IOP utilizes a multidisciplinary and integrated treatment approach that assists individuals in moving towards a less structured treatment approach.

What to Expect From an Intensive Outpatient Program

Our intensive outpatient program (IOP) provides a flexible and structured treatment option for individuals managing generalized anxiety disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, co-occurring substance use disorders, and other mental health challenges.

Designed as an alternative to traditional outpatient therapy, our IOP offers more frequent therapy sessions—typically 3–4 days a week for several hours per session—to ensure the appropriate level of care based on each client’s medical history and specific needs.

Clients participate in individual and group therapy, incorporating cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to develop coping skills, emotional regulation, and life strategies. Medication management is available to support symptom stabilization, and regular case management ensures treatment plans are adjusted as needed.

With a focus on holistic recovery, our IOP provides structured support while allowing clients to maintain daily responsibilities, making it an effective step toward long-term mental wellness.

IOP Treatment Approach

At our mental health rehab, our intensive outpatient program (IOP) is designed to provide structured mental health support while allowing individuals to maintain their daily responsibilities.

Our evidence-based therapies help clients develop coping skills, improve emotional regulation, and work toward long-term success in their recovery journey. Clients participate in frequent therapy sessions throughout the week, engaging in individual, group, and family therapy to address their unique mental health challenges.

Our IOP incorporates a range of behavioral health therapies to promote healing and long-term well-being:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT helps clients identify and change negative thought patterns that contribute to mental health struggles such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD. By working closely with our therapists, clients develop healthier coping strategies and practical problem-solving skills.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT is used to teach essential skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness. Clients benefit from learning techniques to manage overwhelming emotions and improve relationships.

Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET)

MET is designed to strengthen a client’s motivation for change and increase engagement in treatment. This therapy is especially useful for individuals struggling with low motivation or ambivalence toward recovery. Our therapists help clients identify personal goals and build the confidence needed to achieve them.

Group Sessions

Group therapy is a key component of IOP, offering clients a space to participate in shared experiences, gain peer support, and develop communication skills. Group sessions focus on topics such as stress management, coping skills, self-esteem, and relapse prevention.

Family Therapy & Family Involvement

We recognize that family involvement plays a crucial role in recovery. Through family therapy, loved ones gain education about mental health conditions, improve communication skills, and learn how to create a supportive environment at home. Families are encouraged to participate in therapy sessions and engage in ongoing support to strengthen relationships and promote lasting wellness.

At our mental health rehab, we believe that a comprehensive, personalized treatment approach is essential for IOP success. By combining evidence-based therapies, group support, and family involvement, our program empowers individuals to take control of their mental health and build a strong foundation for the future.

Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program

Crest Mental Health’s virtual intensive outpatient program (virtual IOP) offers the same high-quality behavioral health treatment as our in-person IOP, providing flexible, accessible care from the comfort of home. This program is ideal for individuals who need structured mental health support but face barriers to attending in-person sessions.

Clients participate in individual therapy, group sessions, and family therapy through secure online platforms, ensuring they receive personalized treatment, therapist guidance, and family involvement in their recovery journey.
